Drink driving is one of the biggest contributors to death and serious injury on the roads.

Drink and drug driving is one of the top five contributing factors to people being killed or seriously injured on the road – in other words, it is considered a “Fatal 5” offence.

Even in small amounts, alcohol can affect reaction times, observation and co-ordination, as well as increasing drowsiness and affecting vision and judgement of speed and distance. All making a lethal combination when getting behind the wheel of a car.

If you’re driving, the safest option is to avoid alcohol. Feeling sober is not a reliable indication that you are safe to drive.

In the UK if a driver is found to be over the drink-drive limit, and/or driving while impaired by alcohol, they can receive a maximum penalty of six months in prison, an unlimited fine and an automatic driving ban of at least one year.
