Surrey RoadSafe is a road safety partnership, comprising: Surrey Police, Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner for Surrey, Surrey County Council (including Surrey Fire & Rescue Service) and National Highways, working to:

• Reduce the number of road casualties, in particular, fatal and serious injuries
• Tackle collision clusters and high-risk routes
• Identify and support vulnerable road users,to reduce their risk
• Actively encourage safer and considerate road user behaviour.

By working in partnership, in collaboration with our communities, we provide support and advice to all road users throughout Surrey. We develop and deliver strategies to promote road safety and safe road use practices and actively encourage everyone to remain safe and considerate on the road.

Surrey has seen success in reducing casualties in recent years, but there is still more to do.

Road safety, speeding, and anti-social driving remain a prime concern of Surrey’s residents. With a range of road safety awareness campaigns and initiatives, the partnership works to raise awareness of: laws, key messages, preventative measures, information and guidance to create safer roads for everyone.

Data shows the #Fatal5 contributing factors in collisions where people are killed and seriously injured (KSI) are:

• DISTRACTED driving (e.g. using a mobile phone whilst driving)
• Excessive and inappropriate SPEED
• DRINK & DRUG driving
• Failing to wear a SEATBELT
• CARELESS & INCONSIDERATE driving.

To combat these offences and many others on our roads, the partnership works closely with Vanguard Road Safety Team Officers to enforce safer roads and educate road users alongside our very own Casualty Reduction Officers (CROs).

In addition to this, our Surrey Safety Camera Team is responsible for the enforcement of speed, red light and red X offences recorded by static cameras, as well as speed offences recorded by our Mobile Enforcement Officers (MEOs).

By analysing collision data, alongside local Speed Management Plans (SMPs), we identify patterns and trends to effectively identify any areas for improvement or enforcement.

Our partner highway authorities are responsible for any engineering changes and improvements. Working in partnership in this way enables a joined-up approach to road safety across the county and means we can deliver interventions in line with best practice.

As well as this, Surrey RoadSafe deploys other interventions to actively influence road safety, including, Community Speed Watch, as well as engineering improvements such as vehicle activated signs or traffic calming to manage speeds.
