Look after your bike or moped, and it’ll look after you. It’s as simple as that.
A quick check before every ride only takes a few minutes, but it could save your life.
Use the P.O.W.D.E.R routine to make sure you’re road-ready…
-
⛽ Petrol
Running out of fuel isn’t just inconvenient – it can put you in a risky situation.
-
Do you have enough for your journey?
-
Is the reserve tap off?
-
Check for any fuel leaks
-
-
🛢️ Oil
Your engine depends on the right oil level.
-
Check using the dipstick or sight glass
-
Make sure the bike is upright on level ground
-
Only top up with the correct motorcycle oil (see your handbook)
-
Avoid overfilling – it can cause serious damage
-
Check brake and clutch fluid levels too
-
-
💧 Water
If your bike is water-cooled, don’t skip this.
-
Check coolant level on level ground with the bike upright
-
Top up with a mix of distilled water and antifreeze if needed
-
Look for damage to hoses or the radiator
-
-
🔧 Damaged
A quick once-over can spot problems early.
-
Check for damage, corrosion, or broken parts
-
Look closely at wheels and brakes
-
Make sure nothing is loose
-
-
⚡ Electrics
Being seen and heard keeps you safe.
-
Test all lights, including brake lights (hand and foot)
-
Check indicators and warning lamps
-
Make sure lenses are clean and not cracked
-
Give the horn a quick test
-
-
🛞 Rubber
Your tyres are your only contact with the road – don’t take chances.
-
Check tread depth, damage, and any objects stuck in the tyre
-
Check pressures when tyres are cold
-
Remember: pressure increases when tyres are warm.
